Christmas cupcakes!

Ho ho ho and here we go; it’s  November so it’s nearly Christmas!

I flipping LOVE Christmas. It’s my favourite time of the year, and from October I’m ready and waiting to get Halloween out of the way so I can get excited about the build up to Christmas.

Apparently it’s not acceptable to be excited until Halloween is out of the way, which frankly is a shambles. I say when the shops start putting their Christmas stuff out, it’s fair game. I made these in October, because I don’t follow the rules.

It’s harder than you think to make a Pokeball cake

*I’ve literally just realised this was in my drafts and hasn’t been published. It’s now October 2019… so this blog is about 18 months old. Whoops. Enjoy!*

I made a Pokeball cake last summer for my nephews.

If you’re a fan of lots of pictures in blog posts then this one probably isn’t for you.

I haven’t detailed the bits like crumb coating mainly because I forgot to take pictures… and there are only so many pictures you can take of a Pokeball anyway!

Sweet pastry – my new nemesis?

This post is from 2018 and was saved in my drafts, but I didn’t publish it. So now, a year later, here it is…!

I have previously tried to make sweet pastry twice; once in my flat in the middle of summer and once on a pastry course in the middle of summer. As sweet pastry mainly consists of butter, and funnily enough butter just melts when it’s hot, neither ended particularly well.

So, one morning I turned off all the heating in my flat. It was snowing outside which, coupled with no heating, made my kitchen (my whole flat really) like a fridge. ‘Perfect conditions to give sweet pastry another go,’ I thought. I used a Mary Berry recipe – been a while since we’ve seen one of those on here hasn’t it!

I made Easter cakes!

Hello! I’ve been away for so long I forgot how to log on. But here we are, back again.

I’ve been away for a bit because I just couldn’t really deal with doing any baking to be honest – I think it was all anxiety related.

BUT, I made some cakes last week, for a cake sale that we did at work to raise money for Asthma UK.

Here is what I made…

Cooking from my Calendar – May

This month’s recipe from the calendar is rock cakes.

Please, I’ve been making rock cakes basically since I was born. I think they were the second thing I ever baked with my mum (after fairy cakes of course).

They are a favourite of my dad. I also don’t mind rock cakes, even though they have dried fruit in them. My Uncle Ron puts a pinch of cinnamon in his and they’re lovely.

Hummingbird Bakery: Banana and Cinnamon Muffins

I eat a lot of bananas, but I don’t really like them when they are baked into a cake, if I’m being honest.

When someone brings in a banana loaf, I’m usually not one of the first people in the queue to try it, which is very unlike me.  Usually if there’s a cake in the office I pipe up at about 10am asking if anyone’s going to have any. I think 10am is an acceptable time for cake.
