This month’s recipe from the calendar is rock cakes.
Please, I’ve been making rock cakes basically since I was born. I think they were the second thing I ever baked with my mum (after fairy cakes of course).
They are a favourite of my dad. I also don’t mind rock cakes, even though they have dried fruit in them. My Uncle Ron puts a pinch of cinnamon in his and they’re lovely.
I don’t even have any progress photos to show you because all I did was put the butter and flour in the food processor until it made crumbs, mixed in the sugar and then mixed in everything else. So here are some photos of the finished product.

I tried to liven it up by sprinkling the dried fruit on the table. Has it worked? No.

How will my dad, the designated tester of this recipe, feel about these? The recipe is not from Be-Ro or Good Housekeeping so it’s quite a change.
A man of few words, he said: “yeah yeah they’re lovely, they’re very nice.” If you’re an avid reader of my blog you’ll know he says this about most of the things I make which is very nice.

After some prompting from my mum he declared that they’re apparently a bit lighter than Uncle Ron’s and a bit sweeter than Uncle Ron’s.
So there we go.
