Lockdown doughnut decorating!

Well this is a weird time for everyone isn’t it. I, like many people, have been socially distancing/self isolating for quite a while now, and now in the UK we are in lockdown.

I’ve been working from home since the 17th of March. It’s safe to say the novelty has worn off now and I’m running out of things to do in the evenings. There is only so much Netflix one person can watch – although everyone’s talking about Tiger King, so that’s one I might start watching.

As well all know, everyone bought all the food, because they were worried about all this. I’ve been wanting to do some baking, but I couldn’t because until a couple of days ago I couldn’t get hold of any eggs.

On browsing Instagram, I noticed that many brands have now had close their shops, but some are coming up with fun new ways to get their products out to people at home by offering ‘make at home’ or ‘decorate at home’ kits.

One of those brands is Doughnut Time. They have lots of shops in London, and some stands in train stations too – before everything got shut down, I used to walk past their stand on my way to the train. Their doughnuts are HUGE – I’ve bought a couple and can confirm they are great.

So, with no eggs and nothing to do, I ordered one of their doughnut decorating kits. It comes with four doughnuts, three glazes and loads of fun decorations.

It arrived the day after I ordered it and it cost £20 – £25 with shipping. Their deliveries are very safe; the driver knocked on the door, stood back about 2 meters to make sure I’d got it, then went on his merry way.

Yes, these all look like a child decorated them but it was fun and kept me busy for half an hour. And I get to eat them too. My favourite doughnut is the one with the bunny on.

This one is a tribute to my love of Coke Zero.

So, if you’re at home and running out of things to do, why not give it a go? You can order a kit here – they also have vegan options, and are delivering these kits across the UK at the moment. I know other brands are doing similar things so maybe I’ll order from another one… but now I’ve got some eggs I might do some actual baking.

Don’t forget that you can subscribe to this blog to get email notifications about my latest blog posts. It doesn’t cost anything and in the words of my mum, “you don’t get loads of spam.”
