One of my colleagues is pregnant and someone came up with the idea of revealing whether it was a boy or a girl to the office via a cake.
We did a Google search and she found a cake she liked on Google images – I have no idea who made this cake originally so if it was you and you see this I apologise if I’m infringing your copyright but I just copied what you did. Take it as a compliment though!
My colleague went off for her scan yesterday afternoon, and then text me in the evening when she found out what she was expecting so I would know whether to colour the buttercream in the middle pink or blue.
Because I was the only other person in the office at that point who knew, I was terrified I’d either a) end up putting the wrong colour in the middle or b) accidentally tell everyone at work before we’d cut the cake.
I had further anxiety the following morning when another colleague text me and told me to make sure I didn’t drop the cake when walking across the work car park, which I have previously compared to an off road 4×4 course. Luckily the cake was intact, the buttercream was the right colour and I didn’t let anything slip.
I baked my cake, did my buttercream; I even did a proper crumb coat this time and left it in the fridge to set for half an hour. Usually I just put it in for five minutes and then I take it out again because I’m so impatient that I just want to start decorating. But I wanted this one to be perfect.

I made my elephants by cutting around a template with my new craft knife. I even bought myself a bench scraper so I would get lovely smooth sides.

And actually, I was really proud of the finished product! Also, people at work loved the elephants.

I know you all want to know… was the buttercream in the middle pink or blue?
It was…

BLUE! She’s having a boy!

This was so fun to make 🙂 And everyone in the office loved it.
We’re having an office sweepstake on the gender, date and weight of the baby. I guessed boy so I’m five points up;Â now I’ve just got to keep my fingers crossed she has a baby that weighs 7lb 2oz on the 14th of February and I’ll be collecting my winnngs!
